Yamamasa Koyamaen Samidori Matcha – Ceremonial Japanese Matcha
A mellow, creamy Uji matcha with bold umami and a beautifully smooth finish.
Samidori by Yamamasa Koyamaen is a ceremonial Japanese matcha from Uji, Kyoto, crafted for those who enjoy a richer and more rounded matcha experience. Made from first-flush tencha and traditionally stone-milled, Samidori is known for its deep umami, soft aroma, and smooth, easy-to-drink character.
Unlike sharper everyday matcha, Samidori has a more mellow and refined profile. Its bitterness and astringency are gently subdued, allowing the natural sweetness, creamy body, and savoury depth of the tea to come through. The result is a matcha that feels elegant, balanced, and comforting without being too intense.
This is a beautiful choice for traditional usucha, iced matcha, and premium matcha lattes. It is especially suited for matcha drinkers who want something smoother, creamier, and more umami-rich than a basic ceremonial matcha.
Best For
Traditional usucha / thin tea
Iced matcha
Hot matcha

Matcha drinkers who enjoy creamy, umami-forward flavours
Customers looking for a smoother alternative to stronger or more bitter matcha

How Samidori Compares
Samidori sits in a refined and approachable part of the Yamamasa Koyamaen range. Compared with lighter daily matcha, it has more depth, creaminess, and umami. Compared with stronger high-grade matcha, it feels softer and easier to drink, with less sharpness and a smoother finish.
If you enjoy matcha that is rich but not overpowering, creamy but still fresh, and full of umami without strong bitterness, Samidori is a beautiful choice.
How to Use
For traditional matcha, sift 2g of matcha into a bowl, add 60–70ml of warm water, then whisk quickly in a W or M motion until smooth and lightly frothy.
For iced matcha or a premium latte, whisk 2–3g of matcha with a small amount of warm water to create a smooth concentrate, then pour over ice, water, or your choice of milk.
For the best flavour, avoid boiling water. Warm water around 70–80°C helps preserve the smoothness, sweetness, and umami of the matcha.
Storage
Keep sealed and store away from heat, light, moisture, and strong odours. After opening, close tightly and refrigerate for best freshness.
